The idea for this project came from their belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. The movement was founded in 2002 as a shared vision between co-founders, Mark Johnson and Whitney Kroenke, who traveled the world seeking for local musicians, capturing them with a mobile recording studio and cameras perform the same song, interpreted in their own style. Over the years Chan Chan got numerous variations and versions, one of them is an exhilarating cover released, produced by the multimedia music project and social movement, Playing For Change. 11 years later a newer version was revealed by the Buena Vista Social Club project, which turned into a phenomena and earned global fame. The classic piece composed by the legendary Cuban musician Compay Segundo, was first recorded in 1985.
